Corvette cat back exhaust systems are used with or without aftermarket headers. If you are adding headers, I strongly recommend adding a high-quality, cat- back system. Most people do not add headers to their cars, they just bolt on cat-back systems. Cat-back  exhaust systems offer many benefits. Cat-back exhaust systems improve performance. Cat-back exhaust systems improve fuel mileage. Cat-back exhaust systems improve the vehicle's appearance. Cat-back exhaust systems  can sound great.

Usually they just want to improve their cars appearance and sound. All of the major companies offer specialized cat-back systems for your car. You can buy your cat-back exhaust directly from the manufacturer and Corvette supply houses offer cat-back exhaust systems. Each manufacturer produces its own unique cat-back sound and exhaust tip design.

The cat-back sound and style choice is really up to you. My advice is listen to and look at several different cat-back exhaust systems before deciding on buying one for your Corvette. If possible talk to the owners about their experience with installation and quality of their particular exhaust system. Most importantly, ask them about cabin noise are cruising speeds. Some systems have so much negative resonance that you can't hear yourself think on the highway. Cat-back systems are expensive, so it's best to take your time shopping around for the sound and look that you prefer.

After looking at and listening to a number of systems are I decided  the  SLP Loudmouth was perfect for my car. One of the features of this particular system is how SLP eliminated the interior exhaust resonance without reducing efficiency. The engineers spent a lot of time eliminating this annoying problem.

Next, the car was put up on a lift and the old cat- back exhaust system was removed in about 15 minutes. Installation required a little more time, still, everything was secured and ready for start up in about 45 minutes. I was pleased with the performance gains. From the outside, the car produced in exhaust note with a formidable rumble, inside, the car was very quiet. Even when I pushed the throttle hard I did not experience any annoying resonance inside the car. Overall, the installation went perfectly, the car sounds better, looks great, and produces more power.

As a result I have a smooth throaty rumble at idle, near silence at cruising speeds, and a mean growl during hard acceleration. Most of these cat-back systems can provide as much as 10-20 additional rear wheel horsepower and improve fuel mileage by reducing the engine's back pressure.

Of course adding long tube aftermarket, mandrel bent, headers will help even more.
